Tight at the top in the A league at festive break

What was initially predicted as a four or five way fight for the Williamsons Butchers 'A' League title is looking like a two horse race at the festive break.

Exiles lead the way, tied on points with Untouchables, but with slightly superior games difference. They square up in the first week as action resumes, in what is going to be a real humdinger of a match.

Two big wins during the week for the Golf Club propelled them to third place, but still eight points adrift of the leaders. Legion and Sanday have a catch up match to play against each other, but appear to be too far behind to be considered in the title race, although both may play a huge part in deciding who does come out on top.

Meanwhile at the bottom the writing is almost on the wall already for the muppets, with no points from ten matches, and an average match score slightly greater than 11-1 against, it is doubtful whether they can catch the Ale Stars who are four points clear of them.

At the time of going to press there is still one round of games left in the 'B' League before the break. Wanderers are sitting pretty on top with ten wins out of ten and second placed Quoyburray yet to play, who are already seven points behind. The Toonies sit a further three points behind in the third promotion place, but they could still be overtaken by Sands or Bilco Boys once all outstanding matches have been played. The Young Loons have an outside chance of going up, but will need to have a better second half to the season to push into real contention.

League matches resume in the week beginning January 6th.

The KDDL committee would like to wish all players and followers of the local game a very merry christmas and a happy new year.
