Spiers Cup
Eleven teams entered for the first of the dual ‘A’ and ‘B’ league cups. Seven ‘A’ and four ‘B’ teams put their team names forward for the Spiers Cup.
It is grand to see ‘B’ league teams entering for a go against ‘A’ opposition. None are expected to make it too far, but the Shore ‘2’ did make the semi-finals, but found the Untouchables ‘A’ too strong.
The bottom-half had all the rest of the top ‘A’ teams, with the Legion taking on Wanderers, and it went all the way to the team game, after the score reached two all, but the Legion came out on top, 3-2.
The Untouchables were waiting, but they failed to take a game, as the Legion ran out 4-0 winners, and they beat new boys Sanday 4-1 in the semi-final.
The final was pretty one-sided, as the Legion took their second cup, with a 4-1 win.
180’s came from Derek Ward Jnr, Michael Muir Snr, Robert Gatt, Colin Barnett and two from Ivan Leslie to put him on three after only two weeks.
It is on to league business now, with a full league programme starting on Monday.
Will anyone stop the Legion in the ‘A’ league and what about Sanday’s chances in the top league? Who’s your money on in the ‘B’ league?
I am sure there’s going to be a few surprise results before April, next year.
Don’t forget to get the score cards in to the Legion Club by 12 noon, on Saturdays. Entry fees are now due for league teams. Pay to the treasurer, or secretary.
The annual East v West game has been arranged for Friday, December 9, in the Masonic Club, the week before the festive singles. Festive raffle tickets are on sale from all team captains.
The next committee meeting is on Wednesday, September 28, in the Masonic Club, at 8 p.m.
