Leagues near end

The destination of the Williamson’s A and B League titles have still to
be settled but it won’t be long to wait, as in the A League, the Legion
are only four games away from retaining the title.

They beat Meadowbank 11-1 and, with only two games left, they could lose
both and still win the crown, as they lead the Untouchables by three points
and are nine games better off.

The Untouchables also won 11-1 against Quoyburray B and have one game
left. The Wanderers are safe in third place after beating RBL2 9-3 a
result which gives RBL2 the wooden spoon and relegation.

Still in fourth spot are the Commodore but only just as they went down 7-5
to Quoyburray, who move up from second bottom to be replaced by Wanderers
B who didn’t have a game.

It’s very similar in the Williamson’s B League, as Sanday went four points
clear with a 7-5 win over third-placed Shore 2, and a win this week will
give them the title at the first time of asking.

Fanooks are in second spot. There was a good win for the Sands 9-3 at the
Shore, and also good points for Deerness and Tankerness as they fought at a
6-6 draw.

It was a strange game, as Tankerness won the first half 5-1 only to lose the
second half 5-1 (also a 6-6 draw saw the Bilco Boys and Murray Arms share
the points and, with the Likely Lads winning 8-4 at the Sands, the Sands
take the wooden spoon).

There were 180s from Willie Bremner, Ian Wilkie, Keith Brumpton, Gordon
Rendall, Paul Foubister, Billy Ward, Hamish Baillie, Neil Croy, Michael Muir
Jnr, and Derek Manson. Ross Donaldson had two back-to-back 180s.
High finishes of 106 came from Ivan Leslie and Ryan Tulloch, 108 and 122
from Robert Gatt, Paul Foubister 109, Brian More 110, J. Thomson 113, Jamie
Robertson 127, Graham Louttit 130 and 132 from Derek Farmer.

That takes the high checkouts past the 250 mark, and still leading with 13
is Ian Wilkie. In second spot, with 11, is Derek Firth. Ross Donaldson still
leads the A boys with 167 and Ollie Bethwaite heads the B boys with 156.

High checkouts will be counted up to the last of the league games only.
Tickets for the presentation do are very slow. Out of a total of 41
players who have won trophies only one has got a ticket not good enough!
A lot of people put in a lot of work to get the do organised, so they
deserve better support. Tickets are on sale from the ladies and gents
secretaries.
There will be a committee meeting on Wednesday, April 13, in
the Masonic Club at 8pm.
