Not a big turnout for the charity doubles but some splendid darts and outside interest, with the Mintlaw darts team, up for their annual visit, and it was two of the visitors who took the spoils back to Aberdeenshire, as Robbie and Mike took the glassware with a win over local pair Neil Drever and Brian Murray.
It was their second win, as they also won three years ago.
The ladies event was won by Irene and Maureen, with a defeat of Noreen and Hazel, but the real winner was the Belarus Children’s Fund, as £830 was raised on the night.
A big thank you to Charlie and her staff in the Masonic and, of course, all the darts players.
The charity season continues on Friday, with the Tattie Bogle Mixed Doubles. Anyone can enter as it’s open and you don’t need a partner as it’s names out of a hat, and there’s the famous raffle too!
That’s followed next Friday by the first of the four qualifying games to find eight players to take on the eight professionals on September 1.
It’s in the Masonic, names by 7.30 p.m., and it’s open, so anybody can play, male or female.
Lots of people have asked Jim Scollie about the Kirkwall team that won up in Shetland in 1990 – the last time the team won up there, before we won last month.
It was: Jim Scollie (captain), Ali Flett, Roy Foubister, Stewart Craigie, Graham Rosie, John Scollay, Paddy Kirkpatrick, Brian Murray, Kevin Peace, Norrie Firth, Derek Sutherland, Brian Stevenson and Gordon Rendall.
That included five reserves from the original team selected.
