Robbie Stanger wins the Jim Scollie Masters

A rather disappointing entry of only 38 turned up for the latest ranking event — the Jim Scollie Masters — 28 ‘A’ players and ten ‘B’ players.
With quite a few of the top players missing, and with a small entry, some big names went out before the point-scoring rounds, but it was a good line-up for the semi-finals — with three top ‘A’ players and one ‘B’ player.
Keith Bain, who had played well all night and in the semi-final, took Stevie Linklater to the last leg before losing out 3-2.
The other semi saw two top players in Kevin Gray and Robbie Stanger, with Robbie coming out by three to one.
The final looks, by the score of 4-1, to be very one-sided, but it was only Robbie’s better finishing, including a great 151, that carried the day.
The average was Robbie’s 72 to Steve's 71.52, so there was nothing in it!

It is now on to the ‘B’ League Doubles, tomorrow, Friday, night, in the Legion club. Names by 7.30pm and, with the Festive Singles and Festive Raffle being held this year on December 14 in the Masonic Club, it is time to be thinking about getting the raffle tickets back to the treasurer, Davy Henderson, in the Bank of Scotland, or the secretary. Don’t leave them to the last minute!

In the Williamson’s ‘A’ League, the Legion has moved further clear at the top, after whitewashing the Untouchables ‘A’ 12-0, as Sanday went down 9-3 to the Commodores and are now down to fourth spot. Up into second equal with the Commodores are the Golf Club, after a 10-2 defeat of Meadowbank, who are still pointless, and the Wanderers also dropped down to sixth place after The Untouchables beat them 9-3. Another good win for RBLM — 8-4 over Quoyburray ‘B’ — which puts them well down the table.

While RBLM are n fifth spot, Shapinsay have also increased their lead in the Williamson’s ‘B’ League with a narrow 7-5 win out in the Sands. The Murray Arms were losing ground after being held to a six-all draw by Tankerness, who find themselves up in third spot. Another good win for the Nomads — 7-5 down at the Shore, and first wins for Sands ‘2’, beating the Bilco Boys 7-5, and the Shore ‘2’, also by 7-5, over the Likely Lads. So, things are very close at the bottom of the league.

There were 180s from Gary Wilson, Andrew Watson, Gary Norquoy, Cammy Scott, Michael Montgomery, Jim Brown, Ian Findlay, Trevor Shearer, Colin Barnett, Colin Kirkpatrick, Neil Drever, two from Keith Bain, Robbie Stanger, Craig Taylor, Graham Reid and Kevin Gray, with three from Brian Moar and Stevie Linklater.

The 180 table: Kevin Gray 23; Robbie Stanger and Brian Moar 15; Stevie Linklater and Ivan Leslie 12; Ian Wilkie 8; Bruce Moar, Davy Henderson, Alan Gray and Monty all on 6.

High checkouts: 100 from Des Gillespie; 105 and 151 Robbie Stanger; 109 Billy Ward; 110 Thorfinn Eunson and Kevin Wilson; 111 Michael Bain; 113, 114, 116 from Bruce Moar; 116 Ivan Leslie; 117 James Flett and Wayne Small;120 Derek Ward Jnr and Monty; 123 Gary Brown; 125 Brian Moar; 128 Ian Wilkie, and 132 Scott Walls. Stevie Harris had a 171.
