There was a good turnout for the first of the ‘A’ and ‘B’ League competitions, the Spiers Cup.
Eight ‘A’ League and four ‘B’ League teams took part, meaning there were a total of 50 players in attendance.
None of the ‘B’ teams made it past the first game. Although they played good darts, the ‘A’ teams were too hot to handle.
By semi-final time it was the three teams from the Legion and one from the Masonic who lined up.
Sanday overcame the Legion and Wanderers beat RBLM, to make their second final, but couldn’t stop the strong isles team from taking the silverware.
The final scoreline was 4-2, with 180s coming from Michael Moodie, and two from Kevin Gray.
The next cup to be played is the Louttit Singles; the first of the ranking points events. It will be held in the Legion on Friday, October 10 and is for registered players only.
Before then the league select teams will be travelling to Wick on Saturday, October 4 to play Caithness.
The K-DDL teams are: ‘A’: Craig Taylor, Derek Firth, Kevin Gray, Leigh Shearer, Billy Ward, Roy Foubister, Ivan Leslie, Michael Moodie, Alan Gray, Gary Wilson, Bruce Moar, Ian Linklater and Jim Brown. Reserves: Simon Parry, Michael Muir Jnr, Martin Peace, Trevor Shearer, and Brett Dickinson.
‘B’ team: Jim Scollie, Scott Walls, Malcolm Coghill, Derek Ward Jnr, Keith Bain, Derek Ward Snr, Ian Eunson, Callum Miller, Raymie Rendall, George Low, Thorfinn Eunson, Cammy Scott and George Firth. Reserves: Kenny Gillespie, Derek Manson, Billy Brown, Erlend Eunson, and Brian Stevenson. It’s important if any of the players can’t travel to let the team captains know as soon as possible, as bookings have to be made for travel arrangements.
Team entry fees are now due and can be paid to the treasurer Davy Henderson at the Bank of Scotland or the secretary, Jim Scollie.
