Pilgrimage Walks in Kirkwall

As ideas for Pilgrimage began to take shape in Orkney, Kirkwall East Mission Group whilst contributing to the development of what has come to be known as the St Magnus Way, looked for a less ambitious project.  Inspiration was gained from other groups who had drawn up ‘Awareness Walks’.  Surely something similar could be done around Kirkwall?  At the same time the installation of a ‘Peace Pole’ – a suitable starting point for any Awareness Walk - was being considered.  Now a selection of walks is available taking the walker to a variety of venues around the town.  A Peace Pole with its inscription ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’ in four languages (Chichewa, English, Norwegian and Polish) linking Kirkwall with nearly 200,000 other sites around the world is in place and you are invited to download the walks below or take an ‘Awareness Walks’ sheet from the box beside the main exterior door of Kirkwall East Church, King Street Halls and walk.  The walks are timed to last about an hour which should allow contemplation along the way.
