Towards the end of last year on behalf of the Tourist Association I undertook a project for Eday to become registered as an official ‘Dark Sky’ island. Now, after several rounds of correspondence I am really pleased to be able to give you all an update on this project.

I have been in contact with Steve Owens who is a Dark Sky consultant. Steve will be visiting Eday sometime over the next few months to conduct a survey of our night time skies. This survey is the first stage of applying for Dark Sky status.

To help Steve with this survey I will also be conducting a survey of the external lighting our houses have and the street lighting on Eday. For this I need your help. Over the next few weeks I will be sending out a form for all households to complete on what outside lighting they have on and around their premises. I would be very grateful if you would complete these forms so I can collate all the information that is needed for the survey.
