In August 2020 KDDL committee announced it was continuing to monitor the situation regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, and the possibility of league fixtures restarting.
Following online discussions, in light of government guidelines, it was said that at the moment there are no plans to hold the AGM, or restart play, for the safety of all involved. Further updates will be provided as and when we can give them.
In August 2021 it was announced that following a meeting of the committee we have scheduled the AGM for Thursday 23rd of September at 7pm in the Masonic Hall.
Due to the unusual circumstances at present, this season will be a bit different from what we are accustomed to, but hopefully normal service will be resumed for next season. The main objective at present is to get us back playing some darts.
- teams need to have registered a minimum of 4 players AND confirmed their venue (some venues are not opening for darts so alternatives may need to be found) by 7pm on Thursday 16th September to the league secretary. No registration slips will be handed out this year, please just sign a sheet with the team name and get players to print their name and sign it then send photo via private message (or post the sheet)
- The KDDL are not asking for signing fees for teams this year
- The resumption of league play will be discussed with the possibility of league matches beginning on Monday 1st November IF Scottish government guidelines have relaxed further by then. At present masks must be worn to play darts according to the latest Scottish Government guidelines for Tourism and Hospitality.
- The conclusion of the currently suspended season will be discussed and finalised.
- Cup games are not planned at present but as circumstances change we may schedule them for after new year.
- Anyone wishing to stand for committee duties should intimate this in writing to the secretary by 7pm Thursday 16th September.
- Because of the extraordinary circumstances at this time we will not be taking proposals for the AGM.
In September 2021 a rather poorly attended AGM took place in the Kirkwall Masonic.
Following lengthy explanations from the committee and a balanced discussion from the floor, it was unanimously agreed to postpone the 2021-22 season until January, when it will be reviewed. This gives the committee time to fully get our house in order in terms of complying with the ever changing and largely conflicting guidelines at present, as well as seeing how the local and national covid spike pans out.
If all goes as planned and the situation relaxes enough, the intention is to start afresh with team registration nearer the time as the goalposts in terms of mask wearing guidelines have changed this week, and are now a recommendation rather than a rule, which may entice more players and teams to return. We would then call an EGM sometime in January to see how the league setup will be, with the intention of playing from February through to the end of April. Cup games look unlikely at present.
As for the suspended 2019-20 season, it was unanimously decided to finish the season as the tables stood. The Legion were A league champions, with the runners up prize split between OGC and commodores who were tied in 2nd and 3rd. Wanderers and Shapinsay were relegated. Tigers were B champions, with Legion Arrows runners up.
Robert Stanger and Brett Dickinson have stepped down from the committee and their contribution over the years will be a miss. Allan Brown rejoins the committee after a lengthy absence, as does Steven Linklater.
In January 2022 it was announced that following a meeting of the KDDL committee tonight league secretary Brian Moar was pleased to announce our plan to tentatively resume competitive play with a series of open singles competitions. Most competitions will be money in/money out and if numbers and interest are high, we may look to add more competitions to the schedule.
Individual competition formats may differ from usual depending on numbers. If turnout is low on any particular night, we may revert to round Robin format for instance in order to give players more gaming time.
We encourage players to stick to whatever covid guidelines are in place at that point in time as competitions arise, and to respect those in place at the individual venues.
In February 38 players entered the Jimmy Miller Open Singles in the Legion. Kevin Gray emerged victorious, beating Paul Foubister 4-0 in a high quality final. Jimmy's grandson Michael Allan presented the trophies.
16 players entered the U30s open in February. By semi final stage it was George Low v Connor Crawford and Erlend Lennie v Jamie Anderson. The final was contested by George and Erlend. Some good legs in the final but with more consistent scoring Erlend ran out the winner 4-1 with a 14 dart leg to win it. Erlend has now won the trophy 3 times. 3 180s were scored on the night, 2 by Erlend Lennie and one by Connor Crawford. No ton plus checkouts but the bottle went to Aiden Nicolson with a stunning 85 as the highest finish!!
23 players entered the Tom Notman Cup, bolstered by a contingent of 7 from the borders. A round robin format following the old best-of-3, 301 double start was played, with the top 2 in each group going through to the quarters.
Gary Wilson eventually emerged victorious, beating Erlend Lennie 2-1 in the final.
Stevie and Ian Linklater triumphed in the league doubles in March 2022 in the Masonic, beating Iain and Alan Findlay 5-2 in the final. This year, with nobody being officially registered, the competition was open to any players who have ever previously been registered with the KDDL.
Also in March 2022 Kevin Gray won this year's league singles, beating Erland Ritch 5-0 in the final with a 93.94 average. Scintillating darts!!
