With the league season now underway this week, it was the turn of the 301 double start team cups last week. Deliberately scheduled to try and hone players finishing prior to the leagues kicking off, it certainly achieved that.
The 'A' teams turned up in force on Monday evening, with some superb darts thrown and in the end it was the Untouchables who won the final against the Exiles, with the match settled on the deciding leg. The same scenario unfolded in the 'B' and 'C' cup the following evening, with Quoyburray pipping Sands to the cup in the gallon.
The Henderson (Royal) cup took place on Friday for teams from all three divisions, with the one leg 601 format designed to get the big scorers firing. The Bull Hitters and Young Farmers teams put up a plucky display in a tough group, but by the final it was the Exiles who took on the Wanderers. The reigning 'B' league champs had their chances but were ultimately defeated by the Exiles, who looked that little bit sharper at the business end of the legs.
The first of this season's ranking competitions, the Louttit Cup, takes place this Friday, followed by another week of league action, before the league takes a break for the October holidays. But fear not, there will still be darts on offer with the last of the team cups and the Tom Notman singles.
