Seator wins Under 30's title

Under 30's runner up Robbie Scott, winner Andrew Seator and Stevie Linklater who created the trophy.

In a weekend where the spotlight was on the future of Orkney darts, it was fitting that the under 30's open singles also took place in the Legion on Friday night. Updates were being watched for from up in Shetland but that didn't distract the slightly older young guns from playing their best in a bid to win the hand crafted standing stone trophy.

It was pleasing to see a strong contingent from the west mainland taking part, but once again there were no young ladies present.

There were some very close matches early on, with several of the main contenders crashing out, and by a quirk of fate, the quarter final line-ups guaranteed that there would be an east versus west clash in the final. Robbie Scott was looking determined as he overcame Shane Rendall 4-1 in the first semi, whilst Andrew Seator whitewashed Ross Wood in the other.

Former WMDA singles champion Andrew was undoubtedly the favourite, but Robbie had been on form all night and seemed to have the backing of the sizeable crowd that had remained to watch. Andrew let chances go begging in the first leg and Robbie picked his pocket with a brilliant 102 finish, soon following this with the second leg. The third leg was heading Robbie's way too but Andrew calmly set about clawing his way through the legs and started finishing when it counted. As Andrew maintained his levels, Robbie appeared to lose his focus and belief, allowing Andrew to reel of five consecutive legs to win the title by five legs to two.

The under 30's cup was the brainchild of Stevie Linklater and he was on hand to present the trophy he had also made himself.

Attention returns to the main ranking points competitions this friday with the penultimate event, the Taylor Singles, taking place once again in the Legion.
