KDDL president Robbie Norquoy, winner Jamie Drever and runner-up Andy Green.
Last week saw a huge week in terms of the lower leagues, with the 'B'/'C' League singles taking place in the Masonic on Friday. Prior to that however, the Sands first secured promotion to the 'A' league on Tuesday evening with a win over the Muppets before beating the Bellevue later in the week to seal the 'B' league title. Congratulations to Toby and his team, who have been the standout team in the 'B' league this season.
With places at stake in the 'B' county team to face Shetland 'B' on away soil in April, there was a good turnout of 32 players, meaning a full array of points were on offer.
Playing for the Bull Hitters, young Liam Budge turned 18 just a few weeks ago, becoming the first graduate of the Orkney Youth Darts system to make his way into the KDDL setup, and he earned his first points by reaching the last 16.
Andy Green was continuing his recent spell of great form as he made his way to the final by dispatching Craig Rendall, hoping to go one better than finishing runner-up last year. Meeting him there would be 3 times 'B' singles champion Jamie Drever, who put paid to the experienced Wayne Small in their semi.
The final was a cracker by all accounts, with both players worthy of the the title, but it was Jamie who emerged a 5-4 winner, claiming his 4th 'B' singles title in the process and rounding off a great week for the Sands player.
This weekend sees the biggest darts competition in Orkney take place, with the Tennents Kirkwall Open on Saturday afternoon. With over £1000 total prize money on offer, it is once again attracting players from all over Orkney, as well as further afield. It is preceded on Friday evening by a warm-up competition in the Masonic, which this year carries a guaranteed £100 first prize, amongst others.
