Trevor wins B League singles
THE first cup of the new season, the B League Singles, had a very disappointing entry of only 15 players out of a total of 61 registered players. It puts in doubt the future of the trophy.
The lack of players didn’t detract from the standard of some of the games, with some of the new young players showing some real promise, but it was two of the more mature players who made it to the final – Trevor Shearer of Fanooks and Craig Moar of Deerness. It looked like a very one-sided affair, as Trevor raced into a 3-0 lead, but Craig took the next two to make it 3-2. The next leg was very nervy, but Trevor took it and the title. Will it be the last? Only time will tell.
Both the top two teams in the Williamson’s A League hit big scores, with Legion whitewashing poor old RBL2 12-0.
RBL2 was one of the teams forced up to the A League and they are finding it very hard going.
The Golf Club, last year’s B League champions lost their 100% record, going down 10-2 to Untouchables, but I was told it was a lot closer than the score suggests.
The Commodore, along with the top two, are also undefeated after beating Meadowbank 9-3. Untouchables A returned to form with a 8-4 defeat of Wanderers B and the big one out at Quoyburray ended all square at 6-6.
Only two teams in the Williamson’s B League have 100% records.
League leaders, Murray Arms, just beat new boys Deerness 7-5 and Shore2, also the new boys, beat Sands 7-5. Sanday and Fanooks dropped points as they drew 6-6 at the Masonic.
Likely Lads had their first win, and a big one, beating Tankerness 10-2, just ahead of Shore who beat Sands2 9-3.
There were lots of 180s again, with 15 being scored by Colin Ross, Brian Stevenson, Leigh Shearer, Kevin Gray, Jimmy Miller, David Kirkpatrick, Wayne Monkman, Archie Yule, E Rendall and two each from Neil Croy, Trevor Shearer and Ian Linklater, who also had a 177.
There were high finishes of 100, 120 and 123 from Ian Wilkie, all in one game, 101 from Derek Ward, 110 from Neil Croy in a 13-dart leg, 116 from Derek Firth, 118 and 139 from Lee Macpherson, 126 from Stevie Linklater and topping the lot 151 from Trevor Shearer.
The first of the domestic cups gets underway tomorrow, Friday, with the Knight Cup for A League teams being played in the Royal British Legion. Names in by 7.30pm. Then, next Friday, it’s the Seatter Cup for B teams in the Masonic Club.
Fixture lists are now in all venues. League entry fees are now due. Failure to pay could result in deduction of league points. Team captains are reminded that no league games are to be played on Fridays when cup games involving their leagues are being played.
