Fanooks top B League
IN the Williamson’s A League it was four in a row for the Legion as they handed out another whitewash. This time it was Quoyburray B on the receiving end.
It keeps the Legion top by three points, having played a game more, and I understand the big game versus the Untouchables has been postponed to a later date.
As for the Untouchables, they kept up the challenge with an 11-1 defeat of RBL2, who are really finding it hard going in the top league.
The Wanderers had a good 11-1 win up at the Golf Club and the Commodore have hit top form with a 10-2 defeat of Wanderers B, who showed early promise but have faded badly.
Meadowbank have gone the other way. After a poor start they have really come on well, with their latest success being a 10-2 win over Quoyburray and are up to sixth spot.
The Williamsons B League has new leaders after the Sands inflicted the first defeat on South Ronaldsay’s Murray Arms. The score was 7-5, and that allowed the Fanooks to take over at the top after their 8-4 defeat of the Likely Lads. But Sanday are still there with a 10-2 defeat of the Sands 2, and joy at last for the Bilco Boys with their first win after beating Deerness 7-5. There was no score from the Shore.
Remember score cards must be in the Legion Club by 12 noon on Saturday – no cards, no points.
There were 180s from Danny Wards, Trevor Shearer, Andrew Rendall, Brian Moar, Derek Firth, Kevin Gray, Ian Linklater, Lee MacPherson, Ian Wilkie, Steven Tulloch, and two from Stevie Linklater and Brian Stevenson. That takes the total to 73 for the season. So far Stevie is on top with six, and brother Ian is on five in second spot.
High finishes included 101 from Paul Foubister, who also scored a 177. Derek Firth had a 100 finish, 101 also from Bruce Moar, Jimmy Miller 102, Brian Moar 107, Robert Gatt 109, Fraser Laird 111, Trevor Shearer 112, Ian Findlay 113, Kevin Gray 113, Stevie Harris 118, Stevie Linklater 120. Brian Moar also had a 125, Gordon Rendall 138, while Ian Wilkie had a 154, but top was Billy Ward with a 158.
There was not a big turnout for the first ranking points game – the Louttit Singles.
There were only 35 – well down on last year – but most of the top players were there and quite a few B players. Only one of them got past the first round. That was Sean Stanger, and by the quarter final stage there were four Untouchables, two from the Legion and one each from the Wanderers and Untouchables. Three of the Untouchables and one Legion player made it to the semis, and Derek Firth of the Legion team beat Ian Wilkie of the Untouchables 4-1 in the final.
But it was far from being as one sided as the score might suggest. Only Derek’s better finishing carried the day.
The B boys get a chance to shineon Friday night with the Ola Cup being played in the Golf Club.
