There was not too bad a turnout for the League Doubles, with 20 pairs
entering, which was a bit down on last year, but with it being the
second-last ranking points event, competition was fierce. And it showed, as
last year's champions, Ivan and Paul crashed out in the first round, Also
out early was last year's runners-up, Ian and brother Stevie. By final time,
it was the same old story, with the Legion versus the Untouchables, as Kevin
Gray and Derek Firth faced Willie Bremner and Robbie Stanger. The first four
games were shared at 2-2, although it maybe should have been 3-1 for Kevin
and Derek. But they soon made it 3-2 and a terrific finish of 135 by Derek
took the title and, more importantly, the points. The finish was 25, treble
20 and the bull. You can¹t get much better than that.
It is now on to the Shore Cup, on, Friday. It is an Open Singles
event, so any player in Orkney can play. Names in by 7.30pm.
Both the leaders in the Williamson's A League had good wins. the Legion
remain in top spot, after beating RBL2 11-1. That win increases their games
difference after the Untouchables won 8-4 over the Golf Club. The lead is
now three points, but the difference is 18 games, so even if the Legion gets
beaten when they meet the Untouchables they will still lead. The only other
result in the A League was the 6-all draw at Quoyburray. Two games were
postponed for some reason or another. Teams are reminded that postponed
games should be played within one week of the original date.
The big game between the top two in the Williamson's B League was also
postponed, so there is no change at the top. The Fanooks lead Sanday by two
points, but Sanday have a game in hand. Tankerness had a good 7-5 win over
the Likely Lads and the same score as the Sands beat the Shore 2. Deerness
also had a good 7-5 win over the Murray Arms and the Shore kept up near the
top with a 9-3 defeat of Sands 2.
Twenty-two 180s were scored, which is a new record for any week in the
K-DDL. They were from Jamie Robertson, Willie Tulloch, Derek Firth, Mike
Bain Keith Brumpton, Bruce Moar, Ross Donaldson and two each from Ian
Wilkie, Neil Croy, Brian Moar, Archie Yule, Ivan Leslie and Neil Drever,
with Kevin Gray getting three, He is well in the lead now, with 15.
There were high finishes of 101 from Arthur Cruickshank,102 form Colin
Ross, 104 from Ian Wilkie, 101 and 106 from Ross Donaldson, 102 from Leonard
Craigie, 108 from Willie Bremner, 109 from Tone, 110 from Ian Linklater, 107
from Kevin Gray, 111 from S. Craigie, 121 from Archie Yule, 125 from Ryan
Tulloch, 130 from Stevie Linklater and 135 from Derek Firth. Ian Wilkie has
the most over 100 finishes with 11. Stevie Linklater is second on eight.
