Premier League feel to Inter-County

Kirkwall and District Darts League (KDDL) take  on their northern rivals in the annual inter-county fixture versus the Shetland Darts Association next Friday night, April 22, with the event in new venue which it is hoped will give a Premier League feel to the night!

Cameras, TV screens and a compare will be deployed to make this a similar experience to the PDC Premier League darts which are a regular Thursday night feature on Sky TV. This type of atmosphere is what is hoped for by the KDDL committee as well as the main sponsors, Williamsons Butchers, who have supported the Orkney boys for the last few years.

The match will take place on a stage with large TV screens, provided by OTE Kirkwall, which will be showing a close up of the board and also showing the players score and averages. This will make the game easy to watch and follow for all involved. There will also be a compare introducing the players and calling their scores throughout the game.

In order to accommodate these ideas the match will take place in the Masonic in Castle Street Kirkwall. The organisers hope to attract a good crowd of supporters on the night to help create a great atmosphere with their Shetland friends.

It is hoped that a lot of interested darts followers will come along and see what it is like to represent the Kirkwall league versus Shetland . It is also hoped it will encourage some of the new faces that are making progress within the darts scene to have a go at getting into the team next year.

The KDDL are very grateful to Williamson’s Butchers, Orkney Television Enterprise and the Masonic for their support with this fixture and hope that the new format will be well supported and enjoyed.

The match will take place on Friday April 22 in the Masonic, which will be open to over 18’s as the event is licensed and entry is free.

There will be hot food on sale throughout the evening to make it an all round must see event.

The ladies inter-county takes place the previous night in the Legion. Then on Saturday the Anniversary Shield Open darts competition takes place in the Legion with all made very welcome. Saturday night see’s the annual darts do takes place back at the Masonic, a karaoke disco with Steve Smith.
