It was a high-scoring start to the new league programme, and leading the way and carrying on from last season were the defending Williamson's 'A' League champions, the Legion, with an 11 - 1 defeat of the Golf Club.
Last season the Legion hit five and 12 - 0 whitewashes and four and 11 - 1 wins and, already, it looks as if they have no intention of handing over their crown, but there are some good teams out there, and what about last year's 'B' champions. They got off to a splendid start, with a 9 - 3 win over Wanderers 'B', and there are always many times champions the Untouchables, with a very good win by 8 - 4 over the Wanderers.
I also understand that the Commodore Bar has changed its name, so the darts team will be called the Commodores, and they got off to a good start with an 8 - 4 defeat of Meadowbank.
The local derby at Quoyburray was postponed because of illness.
In the Williamson's 'B' League, RBLM led the way with a 10 - 2 defeat of the Murray Arms out in the 'Hope. Close behind, with a 9 - 3 score, was Shore '2', over in Shapinsay - not an easy place to pick up points.
The Sands also had a good win, 8 - 4 over the Likely Lads, while Tankerness just made it, winning 7 - 5 over Deerness.
No scorecard came in from the Shore, and team captains are warned that failure to get the card in to the Legion by 12 noon on Saturday will result in the home team losing the points, if they have any.
Also, where two teams are drawn at home in the same venue, team captains are reminded that darts can be played on all nights of the week, and not only Monday and Tuesday.
Rule five, league entry fees are now due and must be paid by October 26. Failure to do so will result in points being deducted every week until paid. This is a committee decision.
There were one hundred and eighties from Paul Foubister, Ray Findlay, Lee MacPherson, Billy Ward and two from Ivan Leslie, Kevin Gray, Brian Moar and Andrew Watson.
High finishes: 100 from Brian Moar; 102 Neil Croy; 105 Brian Murray; 107 Ray Findlay; 113 Roy Griffiths. Derek Firth, in a 12-dart leg, got 114; Gordon Rendall 115; Kevin Gray 108; Ivan Leslie 116; Willie Bremner and Lee MacPherson 118; Thorfinn Eunson and Mike Bain had a 132, with Bull-Bull double 16 - exhibition stuff?
I was noticing that some scorecards have been written out with just first names or nicknames. Cards must be made out with the name that's on registration forms, so they can be checked.
There's a new cup on the go - the Davy Cooper Open Singles Cup.
Davy was the Orkney Singles champion. It will be played for on Saturday, November 12, in the Masonic Club. Names in by 2.30pm, and it's open to any player in Orkney, male or female.
It's going to be a fun day, with raffles and fun boards.
Festive raffle tickets must be returned to the treasurer, Davie Henderson by the end of November.
