There were no real surprises after the first league games of the new season.
In the Williamsons ‘A’ League, the Legion carried on where they left off last season by thumping Quoyburray ‘B’ 11-1. It is now 47 games since the Legion last tasted defeat — still way short of the Nomads record of 72 games, but only two short of third-placed Likely Lads, on 49 games.

Elsewhere, there were good wins for the Wanderers (8-4 over last year’s ‘B’ champs, RBLM), and an 8-4 win for Untouchables ‘A’ over Meadowbank.
Sanday came in with a 7-5 win over the other Quoyburray team, and the only draw saw the Commodores and Golf Club share the 12 games six-each.

Top score in the Williamsons ‘B’ League came from the new team the Nomads, out at the Sands, with a 9-3 score.
Shapinsay, who must be one of the fancied teams in the ‘B’ League, beat the Bilco Boys 8-4 at the Golf Club.
Also, 8-4 was the score out in the ’Hope, as the Murrays beat the Shore, and the Likely Lads got off to a good start, with a 7-5 win over the Legion Arrows.
It was not a good night for Deerness, as they went down 7-5 to the other Sands team.
The only draw saw the Tankerness boys hold the Shore ‘2’ six-all.

It was also a good week for 180s, with 21 being hit, from: Davy Henderson; Michael Muir Snr; George Low; George Greave; Sean Stanger; Stevie Linklater; Roy Foubister; Derek Firth; two from Ivan Leslie; three from Robbie Stanger; and four from Kevin Gray. Also, one from Derek Farmer and Aaron Mitchell, with Martin Peace hitting two.

High checkouts: 101 from Wilfie Tulloch; 120 Ivan Leslie and 110; Craig Moar 134, and 160 from Kevin Gray. That will take a lot of beating.

The first of the ranking points events starts next Friday, with the Louttit Singles.
It is for registered players only, and good luck to the two teams travelling to Wick on Saturday.
Also, lots of teams still have to pay their entry fees.
