A bright start to the new year, with ten teams entering for the Swanney Cup — seven ‘A’ teams and three ‘B’ teams.
None of the ‘B’ teams made it past the first games, but a special mention for the Murray Arms team, as they were the only team to take a game off the Legion, going down 3-1.
The Nomads lost 3-1 to the Untouchables, and Shore ‘2’ lost by the same score to the Commodores.
The Golf Club beat the Wanderers 3-2, and Untouchables ‘A’ overcame RBLM 3-0 and the Commodores 3-1 to meet the Golf Club in the semi-finals, where they lost 3-1.
In the top half, the Legion cruised to the final with a 3-0 win over the Untouchables.
In the final, the Legion ran out 3-0 winners over the Golf Club.
There were 180s from Neil Drever, Stevie Linklater, Martin Peace and Keith Brumpton.
In the Legion Singles, there were 28 entries. At the end of the nights play it was Bruce Moar who took the title, beating Stevie Linklater 3-0 in the final.
Darts continues on Friday night with the Legion Doubles in the Legion at 7.30 p.m.
Then, on Monday, it is back to league business, with both leagues starting the second half.
In the Williamson’s ‘A’ League, will anyone stop the Legion? Meanwhile, in the ‘B’ League, can Shapinsay be halted? Only time will tell.
The next big cup is the E. R. & T. Craigie Singles. It is a ranking points event and it is on in the Quoyburray on Friday, January 25. Names by 7.30 p.m.
There is a new cup on Saturday, February 2, in the Masonic at 3 p.m. It is for players aged between 18 and 30, so this is a chance for all you young players to shine on the big stage.
