A disappointing entry of only nine teams came forward for the Henderson Cup, the last combined ‘A’ and ‘B’ event.
Eight ‘A’ league teams entered, with only one ‘B’ league team competing — the ever-faithful Nomads, who went out at the first hurdle.
Progressing to the semi-finals were the Golf Club, Legion, RBLM, and Sanday, who made the final, along with the Legion, who cruised through with a 4-0 win to collect another cup.
The Legion only lost once this season!
There were 180s from Alan Gray and Stevie Linklater.
High checkouts: 100 from Neil Drever; 119 and 146 Kevin Gray; 120 Leigh Shearer; and 126 Ian Wilkie, who also had a 177 score.
With both leagues now under way, it is time to concentrate on ranking points, and it gets started again on Friday, night in the Quoyburray with the E. R. & T. Craigie Singles. It is for registered players only and names are required by 7.30 p.m.
From fourth place down the points are very close, so a good turn out is expected, and with Caithness, as well as Shetland, in Orkney this season, lots of players are still in contention for team selection.
A new trophy, courtesy of Stevie Linklater, is up for grabs next Saturday (February 2) in the Masonic Club. Names by 2.30 p.m. for a 3 p.m. start. It is an open event for all players between the ages of 18 and 30.
The Motorhoose pub in Kirkwall have been in touch to say that they are holding an open singles competition, Thursday 24th January. Names in by 8.30pm.
