In the Williamsons ‘A’ League, the Legion are more or less there, after a 10-2 defeat of RBLM left them nine points ahead, with nine points still available.
But, with a games-difference of 35, and only 36 games left to play for, I think all bets are off.
The real scrap is for second place, with the Golf Club currently occupying that spot on games-difference, after beating the Wanderers 8-4.
But the Commodores closed up with a 10-2 defeat of Quoyburray ‘B’, so there are only two games between them.
That leaves the Wanderers in fourth place, but they can’t finish any higher, and Sanday, 10-2 winners over Shapinsay, are also pushing hard for that fourth spot; one point is the difference.
The Untouchables could have taken that spot, but only drew six-all with Quoyburray, which puts Quoyburray eight points ahead of Shapinsay in the fight for the wooden spoon.
A point ahead of Quoyburray are the Murray Arms, after going down 10-2 to the Untouchables ‘A’, so the relegation places are very tight.
Is the battle for the Williamsons ‘B’ League now over?
It could be, as the Nomads crashed 9-3 to the Sands ‘2’ and, along with the Sands ‘2’ winning their other game against Deerness 11-1, the Burray boys now lead by four points, with nine still available.
The Legion Arrows had the chance to close the gap, but went down 7-5 to Deerness in their second game.
Also closing in are St Ola, after an 11-1 win over the Likely Lads, and there was also a good win for Meadowbank, 7-5 over the Motorhoose.
And don’t rule out Tankerness yet, as they beat the Bilco Boys 9-3.
There’s no word from the Sands as to whether they are continuing or not, and no score in from their game versus the Shore.
The next big game is the annual East v West on Friday night in the Legion Club, as the two East teams defend both cups won last year.
There were 180s from Trevor Shearer, Alan Gray, Michael Muir Jnr, Billy Ward, Des Gillespie, Colin Kirkpatrick, Michael Bain, Bruce Moar, Neil Croy, Ivan Leslie, Graham Louttit, Erlend Eunson, Andrew Moar, Gary Wilson, Kenny Gillespie, Erlend Lennie, and two from Billy Eunson, Robbie Stanger, Stevie Linklater, and three from Brian Moar.
