Shapinsay Open Singles Darts

The first ever Shapinsay Open Darts competition takes place in the Shapinsay School hall this Saturday.
It is hoped that the event will attract darts players from the island, as well as from Kirkwall and other areas of Orkney.
Doors open for the event, run by the Shapinsay Darts Club, at 12 Noon. Names have to be in by 12.30pm and the competition, which are open to both men and ladies, get underway at 1pm.
There are separate men's and ladies competitions, and the £5 entry fee includes soup and sandwiches on arrival.
Top prizes in both the ladies and gents competitions is £100 plus trophies, with the runners-up winning £50 and trophies.
The Gordon Rendall Memorial Quaich will be awarded to the highest place B league player. There are also trophies for the highest placed Shapinsay residents, men and ladies.
For those visiting the island, a boat leaves Kirkwall at 11.30am and there are various boats back throughout the day. This includes the usual service boat as well as a charter boat later on if required by anyone.
As well as soup and sandwiches on arrival for players, the Balfour Castle chef Jean-Baptiste Bady will be cooking a hog roast to be served at 4pm.
There will also be fundraising prize draws etc on the day.
