There was dancing in the Legion last week as both Williamson’s darts leagues were won by teams from the club.
In the ‘A’ league, the Legion retained their crown by beating Untouchables 7-5, but that result didn’t win it — it was the score from the other club that did it, as Sanday came back from 4-2 down to beat the Golf Club 7-5.
It means that the Legion could lose their last game 12-nil and they would still win it.
It’s a great show from the Legion boys as they dropped seven points in the first half — the only points they have dropped since January 2010.
That defeat for the Golf Club allowed the Commodores to move into second spot, after they whitewashed Quoyburray ‘B’ 12-nil. They lead the Golf Club by two games and there’s only one game to go.
The Untouchables ‘A’ had a 10-2 win over the Nomads, who could be heading back to the ‘B’ League as they are in second bottom spot, just above Quoyburray, who have a game in hand.
As their game with RBLM was postponed, the Wanderers were 9-3 winners over the Sands ‘2’, who are not entirely safe from relegation.
The Williamson’s ‘B’ League was also sown up, with the Legion Arrows beating Shapinsay 10-2 to wrap up the title by three points ahead of the St Ola, who also finished on a high by defeating the Bilco Boys 10-2 — who are in the wooden spoon position on the same points as shapinsay, who have two games still to play but are ahead of the Bilco Boys on games difference.
The Shore had a very good 8-4 win over the Murray Arms, who have failed to show form this season.
Tankerness have done very well, finishing with a 8-4 defeat of the Motorhoose.
The Masonic have not done as well as they hoped, but did beat the Muppets 8-4.
180s from Jamie Drever, Alan Gray, Michael Moodie, Trevor Shearer, Ian Linklater, Ian Wilkie, Wayne Monkman, Kevin Grey, Michael Bain, Des Gillespie, Ross Groundwater, Archie Yule, Brian Stevenson, Ian Eunson, Callum Miller and two from Keith Bain, Derek Ward Jnr and Ivan Leslie.
High checkouts of 100 from Billy Brown and Trevor Shearer; (101) Neil Croy; (102) George Low; (107) Michael Bain; )108) Ryan Tulloch; (110) Keith Bain; (112) Martin Peace; (140) Ian Wilkie. Stevie Linklater scored a 177.
With the leagues at an end, attention turns to what’s next and it gets underway on Friday night with the first of the charity games. It’s in the Legion Club and is the Steven Flett Memorial Mixed Doubles Shield.
Its open to any players in Orkney and you enter with a partner.
Then, on April 18, it’s the trophy presentation night. Tickets available from the secretary. It’s in the Masonic at 8pm and is a fun night as well as the trophy presentation.
Then, on April 24, it’s the big one against Shetland, also in the Masonic.
