The KDDL leagues, sponsored by Williamsons Butchers, have now reached the halfway stage at the Christmas break barring two outstanding A league fixtures.
The Legion extend their lead at the top to 9 points following an 8-4 win over Untouchables A, despite the best efforts of Trevor Shearer who scored three maximums against them. The Golf Club could reduce that to just 7 points if they win their game on hand against Sanday.
The Untouchables currently occupy second following a hard fought 7-5 win against the Warriors. Shapinsay caught up on two games this week, and will feel somewhat
hard done by as both the Commodores and Sanday both just pipped them 7-5.
A terrific game of darts took place between the Wanderers and last placed Quyburray, with the Wanderers coming out on top 8-4 having almost filled the back of the card. Simon Parry in particular was in tremendous form. However, the Wanderers were well beaten by the Commodores a few nights later in the Orkney Hotel, with the home side coming away 9-3 victors.
Results between the bottom four teams will play a huge part in who beats the drop this year, and one such match took place between the Legion Arrows and Ouoyburray B. The Arrows had just a little more firepower and took the match 8-4, moving them five points clear of the drop zone and leaving both Quoyburray teams in there at the halfway stage.
Down in the B' league 7-5 scores were the order of the day, with all but one match ending in that scoreline.
It is Tankerness who have the Christmas number one place, narrowly beating previous
leader the Nomads to go one point clear of them.
Murray Arms held onto third place but the Young Loons made them sweat to get the narrow victory. The Vikings and Muppets had another real tussle but the Vikings plundered the points and Sanday 'B' were inspired by captain Pattie Sinclair to yet another close win over Streamline.
The final result was slightly Iess close, with the whitewashing of the Ale Stars by the Bilco Boys.
180s this week were hit by: Robbie Stanger, Leigh Shearer, Billy Ward, Craig Taylor, Colin Ross, Davy Henderson, Kevin Gray, Graham Louttit, Mark Shearer, Brian Murray, Patrick Sinclair, Gordon Rendall (Sanday B'), Matthew Wylie, Erlend Lennie, Jamie Marwick (two), Simon Parry (two), Stuart Thomson (two). Brian Moar (two) and Trevor Shearer (three). There were also scores of 171 from Ian Munro and Neil Drever.
Ton-plus checkouts came from: Robbie Stanger 100, Clive Hewison 101, Brian Murray 102, Leigh Shearer 107, Simon Parry 110, Billy Ward 116, Patrick Sinclair 122, Neil Croy 136, Jamie Drever 138 and Martin Peace (113 & 120).
