Holm Regatta 2011

Snipe

14 snipes registered for racing on Saturday 20th August, dominating the fleet at Holm Regatta. Richard Lambert's Freyr had a successful day winning the Snipe race as well as the Allcomers, other boats didn't fare so well in the windy conditions. Only 5 boats completed the Snipe race, with several capsizes and a few breakages. Mark Taylor's Wild Goose managed a dramatic capsize over the start line which cause a fair bit of havoc.

Mixed Centreboards

The mixed centreboards had a mix of different boats, notably David Sabiston's very quick Aegir which won the mixed centreboard class. Alan Hale's Wayfarer managed to reach 12 kts, before he capsized.

Kemp Cup 2011

Kemp Cup is traditionally a windy event and the 10th September 2011 was no exception. There was a good turn out of yachts but quite a small group of dinghies this year. At most of the Orkney sailing events the Snipe class provide the largest numbers; this year's Kemp Cup the dinghies were dominated by Lasers, a class which has recently been undergoing a bit of a local rennaisance.

Longhope Regatta 2011

The format of Longhope Regatta consisted of a figure of eight course with the start from the pier end; two back to back races were held in a light to moderate Easterly breeze. A wide range of boats turned out including catamarans, yoles, Merlin Rockets, Wayfarers, a solitary Mirror, a Fireball and a flock of Snipe. The event made an attractive spectacle in the waters of Scapa Flow.

Tidal considerations along with a shifty breeze made for interesting racing. The tide was ebbing during all the racing; quite strongly during the Allcomers race in the afternoon. There was a friendly atmosphere throughout the event, with a tasty meal of mince, potatoes, soup and rolls after the racing. The trophies were presented following a considerable lottery.

Stromness Regatta 2011

Stromness Regatta was held on Saturday 9th July. Light and patchy wind gave tricky race conditions. In the Snipe race Neil Foubister's No Fear got off to a great start and finished well ahead of the other snipes.
