u3a Walking Group 2 - Feb 2023

by Ellie - 19:48 on 18 February 2023

On a perfect Orkney day, with a clear bright blue sky and very little wind nine of us met at the Ring of Brodgar for our walk on Monday 13th February.  Parking at the main car park we walked up to the stones circle and spent a little time admiring the views, we walked down to the Stenness loch where we saw a couple of hares and plenty of Oystercatchers, Redshanks, curlews.  At a leisure pace we followed the loch edge and, on our way, spotted lots of ducks, Mallards, Goldeneyes and Greylag Geese.  On reaching the Stones of Stenness we made our way to Barnside House and the hide where we saw plenty of swans including the one and only black swan, Cormorants, and more ducks.  We then made our way back to the parked cars; the walk was 3½ miles.

Our next walk is Monday 13 March 2023 – I have two walks in mind one at Evie and the other at Birsay, I will update you nearer to the date depending on the weather.  I am also in the process of checking out walks on a couple of the isles to put on our programme for later in the year.
