u3a Photography Group - 21 August, 2024 - Scapa
by Tim Wright - 19:50 on 28 August 2024
Fifteen of us met at Scapa today keen to get back to the important things in life, taking photos, after all the Summer holidays. The weather was a little overcast with not too much wind. The tide was well in, although it had another hour to go until High Water. Tom kindly furnished us with a list of possible items of interest including Parallel pipes, Flag, the Cathedral, (?)Bird, Anchor, Dog, Crash Barrier, Electric Car, Wind Turbine and Fresh Water. Of course these were only suggestions and one could take anything that caught the eye, for instance Jelly Fish and Shell patterns and writing on the Beach Wall. Most set off towards the Royal Oak Memorial followed by the road down to the pier. The majoriy of things on the list were available to take here and on the Pier although there was quite a bit of harbour activity there. A launch came in from the Dive boat out by the Royal Oak and was duly hauled up. It turned out to be the Royal Navy Bomb Squad, although they assured us they hadn't got any bombs on board. Others went to the Scapa end of the beach but there was not a lot of water at the Scapa Burn. As we walked back, the wind had started to rise and getting into the cars the rain started to come down. 13 of us went to Wellpark for lunch and were easily able to get seats. Lots of chat and discussions about the Granton trip, who was going, whom and how and in which cars. Hilary will be sending out further details about the Hotel and the excursions that they offer while we are there in a couple of weeks.
In the meantime the 5 photos for this day's outing should be sent to Tom who will collate them. Thank you Tom .
The project this month is " Flavours, Scents or Spices". Five photos on that theme to David by Monday 23rd September as well as the 5 photos to Tom on today's trip.
