MEMBERS OF ORKNEY LOCAL ACCESS FORUM AND COUNTRYSIDE COMMITTEE

 

Membership of the Committee consists of two members (or their substitutes) of each of the Orkney branches of the following organisations:

Destination Orkney - this is a membership organisation that represents the interests of local tourism businesses and acts as a liaison mechanism between the industry and public sector agencies. Representative - tbc.

Environmental Concern Orkney - group dissolved.

World Heritage Site Coordinator and Ranger Service - with support from Scottish Natural Heritage, we have established a
Ranger Service to provide information for visitors to Orkney's World Heritage Site, which includes the natural and historical landscape as well as the archaeology and culture of Orkney. Representative - tbc.

Hoy Trust - seeks to manage, conserve and promote access to the estate as an area of outstanding natural beauty and ecological diversity for the benefit and enjoyment of the nation and the inhabitants of Hoy. Representative - Liz Dennison.

National Farmers Union of Scotland - The purpose of
NFU Scotland is to protect the interest of its membership by influencing government, public and consumers and by assisting members to develop profitable and sustainable businesses. Representatives - Victor Muir.

NHS Orkney - Representative - position vacant.

Access Panel Orkney - rotating representatives of APO attend to promote accessibility of outdoor access.

Orkney Archaeology Society -
OAS Representative - Julie Cassidy.

Orkney Agricultural Society -
exists to promote all aspects of agriculture in Orkney. Representative - position vacant.

Orkney Disability Forum - the aim is to improve the lives of disabled people in Orkney. We do this through providing a dial-a-bus transport service and a shopmobility scooter service to
disabled people. We also offer advice on disabled access to facilities. Representative - position vacant.

Orkney District Association of Young Farmers - provides educational activities for people between the ages of 14 and 30, whether it be recreational, farming, or fun. Good friends, good fun and education for everyone. Representative - position vacant.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise - the aim of HIE is to support the growth of the local economy by helping to create and develop viable businesses, a skilled workforce and community confidence.  Representative - position vacant. 

Orkney Field Club - aims to encourage the study and conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of Orkney.
OFC organises indoor events in the winter, such as talks, and outside events in the summer, such as walks. These events are open to all, ie members and non-members. Representative - Anne Gascoigne.

Orkney Heritage Society
OHS seeks to stimulate public interest in and to care for the beauty, history and character of Orkney, and to encourage the preservation, development and improvement of features of historical and environmental interest. Representatives - position vacant.

Orkney Islands Council - community council liaison officer - the liaison officer is the person who acts as a communications link between OIC and Orkney community councils. Staff provide information and guidance at community council meetings and arrange administrative support.  Representative - Jenny McGrath.

Orkney Islands Council - OIC is the local authority responsible for the Orkney Islands area, with duties and powers covering a wide range of activities, including the natural environment and outdoor access. Representatives -  Ian Wilkins, Ross Irvine.

Orkney Islands Council - one councillor will be a member of this committee. Representative: John Ross Scott.

 
Orkney Islands Council outdoor education - to promote outdoor education to Orkney schools and wider community using safe instruction, incorporating educational values and suitable outdoor activity sites within the Orkney Isles. Representative - tbc.

Orkney Natural History Society - has ownership of Stromness Museum which exists to portray the Maritime and Natural History of Orkney. Representative - position vacant.

Orkney Ramblers - Orkney Ramblers is an outdoor organisation to promote health, friendship and wellbeing through physical effort. Environmental and access issues are a major priority. Representative - Ian Robertson and Sue Tyzack.

Orkney Riding Groups - Orkney Riding Club, Orkney Carriage Driving Group, Pony Club and The Orkney Riding Centre are represented on this committee. Their aim is to promote the interests of equine sport throughout the county in all disciplines. Representative - Dennis Bichan.
 
Orkney Trout Fishing Association - is dedicated to the conservation and improvement of fresh water environment and fishing in Orkney. The OTFA improves access to fishing through a series of loch sites and stocking native trout. Representative - position vacant.

Royal Society for the Protection of Birds - RSPB Scotland is part of the RSPB, the UK-wide charity working to secure a healthy environment for birds and wildlife, helping to create a better world for us all. Representative - Joshua Wells.

Scottish Association for Country Sports - SACS - Representative - position vacant.

Scottish Agricultural College - SAC - Representative - position vacant.

Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department - SGRPID - working with Scottish Ministers to improve the well-being of Scotland and its people. Representative - Neil McCartney.

Scottish Natural Heritage - SNH is the government conservation agency. Representative -  Daniel Brazier

Scottish Rights of Way - no local representative.
 
Scottish Land and Estates - SLE uniquely represent the role and interests of those involved with rural property and businesses connected wth the land. We embody a proactive approach to property, business and enterprise in rural Scotland based on 99 years of experience. Representative - Cliff Bichan.

SWI - The Scottish Women's Institute was designed to bring women together, with a vision to welcome every woman in Scotland to join. They are here to educate, to share, to campaign, to learn, to socialise, to build a community and of course, to have fun. From life skills and arts and crafts to raising awareness of current affairs affecting women and helping inform government issues, the SWI is proud of its heritage and future vision. Orkney Federation Representative - Mary Connolly.

Voluntary Action Orkney - VAO is an independent community development agency operating in Orkney. VAO manages a range of services and projects to develop, support and represent the interests of voluntary organisations and volunteering, eg funding advice, training, volunteer centre and, in partnership with other agencies, carries out a community engagement programme, administers the community portal and a programme of information and communication technology training. Representative - position vacant.
