The first three races of the 2009 May Series were held on 14 May, with six Snipes taking part. The wind was from the SE, 12 knots gusting 17knots at the start and dropping down to 9 knots by the end of the final race. James Burgon was the race starter and Barry Jones skippered the safety boat. All three races were hard fought proving to be a thrilling start to the 2009 season. The results were as follows: Race 1: 1 No Fear (Neil Foubister/Mairi Fleet), 2 Go Quickly Red (Malcolm Tipler/John Richardson), 3 Njord (Johnny Robertson/Merak Borak), 4 Vendetta (Kenny Holland/Dave Bews), 5 Go Faster Blue (Pete Tipler/Charly Griffiths). Scooby (Donny Hall/John Pratt) did not start. Race 2: 1 No Fear, 2 Go Faster Blue, 3 Njord, 4 Go Quickly Red, 5 Vendetta, Scooby did not start. Race 3: 1 Go Quickly Red, 2 No Fear, 3 Vendetta, 4 Scooby, 5 Njord, Go Faster Blue did not finish. The first of six Try a Sail sessions was due to take place on Sunday 17 May but unfortunately the wind was too strong for beginners to learn to sail. Anyone who is interested in learning to sail, or just fancy a shot at it, is invited to come along on Sunday 24 May at 14:00. Boats, life jackets and instructors will be provided.
