At The Loom | Log Cabin

It's that time of the week again where look at what we've been up to at the loom this week. We have had several projects on the go, but we really wanted to take some time to go over colour and weave. Colour and weave is simply using several different colours together in a warp. The more contrasting the colours, the more dramatic the effects. This sample above is log cabin. There are two blocks, one coloured dark/ light (called block A) and another coloured light / dark (called block B) 

You simply need to warp with the two colours in your hand at the same time. The only key piece of information you need is how to change from blocks A to B so that you get a clean change and the pattern doesn't look off balance. To do this you need to put two threads between each block; a symmetry thread and a framing thread. The symmetry thread simply follows the sequence of dark and light (so if you're previous thread was light, you'd need to make your symmetry thread dark). So it can change depending on your pattern.

Your framing thread needs to be decided, and is the same every time. I choose mine as a dark, so in this case it was red.
