Calendar Page

The Calendar facility provides a convenient facility for posting forthcoming events, and helping to keep your users informed. The admin controls let you easily add events that occur only once, or multi-day ones where you can choose different rules to add events across weeks or months. The calendar itself can be displayed in list format or grid 'month' format, and the controls allow you to set either as the default view seen by the public, though they are also free to change this themselves when using the calendar page.

Editing Your Calendar Page

Navigate to your calendar page, where a blue control panel provides an 'Add Event' button.

Click on the 'Add Event' button to get started . . .

By default, the system assumes that you want to add an event on a specific day and time. (If you want to add an event which repeats at regular intervals over an extended period, then click on the 'Multiple Dates Editor' link at the bottom of this event editor. Usage of this is decsribed at the bottom of this page)

1) Date: Select a date either by typing it into the date field, or by clicking on the date-picker provided.

2) Title: Add a simple, short title. If you make this too long, it may 'wrap' in an untidy way in your calender, so it's best to keep this short - 2 or 3 words.

3) Start and End Time: Select start and end times if appropriate.

4) Description: Add a clear and helpful description of the event. Events are shown on your calendar as links, and when the user clicks on one of these it open that event so they can read the full description.

Click the 'Add Event' button to confirm the changes and add the event to your calendar. The calaendar will now look something like this . . .

As you'll see, by default the calendar is displayed in grid 'month' format, with the title of the event shown as a link. Clicking this displays the event details including the description you added in step 4 above.

If you'd prefer that the calendar is displayed in a simpler list format by default, click on the 'Monthly View' button in the blue control panel to change this. The calendar will now look like this . . .

As tou can see, each alternative calendar layout also features a link at the top right corner allowing users to switch to the other layout format if they prefer.

Adding Multiple Events

Sometimes you may want to add an event that repeats over an extended period. For instance, you may want to add a cooking class each Wednesday at 4.00pm for the next 6 weeks. The Multiple Event Editor lets you edit and configure this sort of event.

Integration with www.orkneycommunities.co.uk

The events on your events calendar will automatically feed through the Events in Orkney section on the main page of www.orkneycommunities.co.uk to promote your event to a wider audience.

The name of your group will also be automatically attached to the event, so you do not need to include it in the title.
